FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about the IELTS Academic Reading test.
Are the IELTS Academic Reading tests on LexiPrep as difficult as the real exam?
Yes. The difficulty is equivalent because LexiPrep uses authentic IELTS Academic Reading tests from reliable sources:
- Actual Tests: selected from real IELTS exams that have already been administered, closely matching the real exam’s difficulty.
- Cambridge English IELTS Academic: the well-known series officially published by Cambridge, widely recommended by examiners and test-takers, featuring many authentic past tests.
Is the test interface on LexiPrep different from the real computer-based exam?
Not much. The LexiPrep interface closely resembles the real IELTS computer-based format, with passages on the left, questions on the right, and built-in tools for note-taking, highlighting, and navigation. The only differences are in colors and minor layout details.
How long is the IELTS Academic Reading test?
The test lasts 60 minutes. There is no extra time for reviewing or transferring answers. On the computer-based version, you type answers directly into the system.
Tip: Aim to spend no more than 20 minutes per passage.
What’s the difference between Academic and General Training Reading tests?
Both have 40 questions, a 60-minute time limit, 3 sections, and common question types (multiple choice, matching headings, True/False/Not Given, gap-fill, short answer, etc.). The difference is in content:
- Academic: academic texts with more advanced and technical vocabulary.
- General Training: everyday topics that are simpler and more practical.
In the computer-based Reading test, where can I take notes?
You’ll receive scratch paper and can also use the built-in highlighting and note-taking tools.
Note: Scratch paper must be returned after the test.
If I misspell a word in a fill-in-the-blank question, will I lose marks?
Yes. Even a small spelling mistake is marked as incorrect, since answers must match exactly. Always double-check your spelling.
Does the system care about uppercase vs lowercase (e.g., TRUE/true)?
No. Both uppercase and lowercase answers are accepted (e.g., TRUE or true).
